Where's Luke? J.J. Abrams Answers Sort Of:

Last week, when the final "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" trailer was released many Star Wars fans including myself asked the question, Where's Luke? Well, director J.J. Abrams answered the question sort of.

During an appearance at an event for Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network in Los Angeles, Abrams replied, "These are good questions to be asking," as he was prodded with questions of where Mark Hamill's character was during the trailer. He added that it was "no accident" that Luke didn't appear in the trailer and when someone pleaded with him with what the meant he replied, "I can't wait for you to find out the answer."

So Abrams didn't really answer the question and it is being rumored there won't be any more new footage released before the film. There are even reports that the film won't screen for critics until the day before the release. He did however not deny that Luke was actually in the trailer as his metal hand appears to be touching R2-D2. While questions still remain, it won't be much longer as "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens in theaters, December 18.

First Permits for Hollywood Studios Answer Some Questions; Meet the Characters of 'Zootopia'

First Permits for Hollywood Studios Answer Some Questions:

Today, a WDWMagic member uncovered the first of probably many permits for the upcoming Hollywood Studios expansion. The permits are scheduled to begin in January 2016, as announced, and a completion date of October 2018.

The first image shows Hollywood Studios marked in yellow filling in existing wetlands and creating new wetlands on the other side of World Drive. The new wetlands are marked in blue. This area where the park will take over existing wetlands could very well be the site of some parts of the new 14-acre Star Wars Land. It hasn't been confirmed by these permits however as they aren't clearly marked.

The second image details a new Victory Way and Osceola Parkway interchange, along with new bridges into the parking lot area.

With the expansion of the park it has been speculated that Hollywood Studios will see a significant upgrade to its infrastructure with the speculation of possible parking garages and new entry and exit roadways. Stay tuned as the expansion of Disney's Hollywood Studios is just beginning and the details are just starting to be revealed.

Meet the Cast of Characters of Disney's 'Zootopia':

Last night, the cast and their character names of Disney's next animated film "Zootopia" were released. We already know that ABC's "Once Upon a Time" star Ginnifer Goodwin will voice Judy Hopps and Jason Bateman will voice Nick Wilde. Here is the rest of the cast and characters as seen above:

Chief Bogo (Idris Elba) - Elba (BBC's Luther) voices Chief Bogo, head of the Zootopia Police Department. A tough cape buffalo with 2,000 lbs of attitude, Bogo is reluctant to add Judy Hopps, Zootopia’s first bunny cop, to his squad of hardened rhinos, elephants and hippos.

Mayor Lionheart (J.K. Simmons) - Simmons (Juno, Oscar winner for Whiplash) voices Mayor Leodore Lionheart,  the noble leader of Zootopia, who coined the city’s mantra that Judy Hopps lives by: “In Zootopia, anyone can be anything.”

Bellwether (Jenny Slate) - Slate (Marcel the Shell) voices Bellwether, the Assistant Mayor of Zootopia, a sweet sheep with a little voice and a lot of wool, who constantly finds herself under foot of the larger-than-life Mayor Lionheart.

Yax (Tommy Chong) - Chong (That 70's Show) voices Yax the Yak, the most enlightened, laid-back bovine in Zootopia. When Judy Hopps is on a case, Yax is full of revealing insights.

Mrs. Otterton (Octavia Spencer) - Spencer (Oscar winner for The Help) voices Mrs. Otterton, a desperate otter who turns to Officer Judy Hopps for help in solving her husband’s mysterious disappearance.

Bonnie and Stu Hopps (Bonnie Hunt & Don Lake) - Hunt (Return to Me) voices Bonnie Hopps, mother of Judy—and her 275 brothers and sisters. Mrs. Hopps loves and supports her daughter, but is a hare nervous about Judy moving to Zootopia to become a big-city police officer. Lake (Dumb and Dumber To) voices Stu Hopps, Judy's father, a carrot farmer from Bunnyburrow. Along with Mrs. Hopps, he is worried about Judy moving to Zootopia and the untrustworthy big-city mammals who live there—especially foxes.

Duke Weaselton (Alan Tudyk) - Tudyk (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) is the voice of Duke Weaselton, a small-time weasel crook with a big-time weasel mouth, who tries to give Judy the slip during a police chase.

'Tower of Terror' Movie in the Works at Disney; BoxOffice Makes First Prediction on 'The ForceAwakens'

'Tower of Terror' Movie in the Works at Disney:

Disney has hired Big Fish scribe John August and is looking to hire a screenwriter to make a movie out of one of its hit attractions Tower of Terror. Jim Whitaker is scheduled to co-produce with August after they hatched an idea together to make a movie based on one of Disney's most popular attractions and the studio loved their vision.

'Tower of Terror' has previously been made into a film, the very first Disney attraction based film, in 1997. The film was only made for television though and starred Steven Guttenburg and Kirsten Dunst. The premise of this film will be much like the attraction that five people enter into a posh hotel's elevator that is hit by lightning and they disappear into the Twilight Zone.

This isn't the only Disney attraction film that is in the works as "The Jungle Cruise" starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, no date has been set for the film's release. Also the popular "Pirates of the Caribbean" film series is scheduled to released its fifth film in 2017.

BoxOffice Makes First Prediction for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens":

BoxOffice has made a long range forecast and its first prediction on how big "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will be in theaters. They state the pros and cons of the film which are:

Pros:
  • Every single trailer has been met with a wave of enthusiasm that no other franchise can match.
  • Disney's marketing campaign has wisely avoided giving too much away.
  • An aggressive merchandising push has helped engage a new generation of fans.
Cons:
  • With so much hype, the film has a lot to live up to.
So what is BoxOffice is predicting? For "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" on opening weekend they are predicting the film to make $215,000,000 and overall $762,000,000. That would be a record opening weekend.

October 21, 2015
Disney Chairman and CEO Robert A. Iger Enters ‘Broadcasting & Cable’ Hall of Fame
By Beth Deitchman, The Walt Disney Company

For 25 years, the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame has served as a gold standard within the broadcast industry, honoring the outstanding individuals whose influence will continue to be felt for generations to come. We’re proud that this year—the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame’s 25th anniversary—The Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Robert A. Iger has joined this extraordinary group of pioneers, visionaries and stars of the electronic arts.

Mr. Iger, whose career began at ABC in 1974, was honored for his stewardship of The Walt Disney Company and his strategic vision focused on generating the best creative content possible, fostering innovation and utilizing the latest technology and expanding into new markets around the world. Mr. Iger officially joined the Disney senior management team in 1996 as Chairman of the Disney-owned ABC Group, where he oversaw the broadcast television network and station group, cable television properties, and radio and publishing businesses and also guided the complex merger between Capital Cities/ABC, Inc. and The Walt Disney Company. During Mr. Iger’s years with ABC, he obtained hands-on experience in every aspect of the television business—including news, sports, and entertainment—as well as in program acquisition, rights negotiations, and business affairs.

“I was lucky enough to know what I wanted to do at a very early age—thanks to watching the nightly news every single night with my parents. And I decided I wanted to be Walter Cronkite,” Mr. Iger said at the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame Awards last night in New York City. “I eventually grew out of that—somewhere during my fourth or fifth month as a weatherman in Ithaca, New York. After making it through one winter, I figured I’d had enough experience giving people bad news and shifted my career goals… smartly. But, I never outgrew my fascination for television—which remains such a powerful storytelling medium in the world, even in this era of such vast change.”

Disney Legend Frank Gifford, who passed away August 9, was also honored with Broadcasting & Cable’s Lifetime Achievement Award. “He was an exceptional man who is missed by everyone who had the joy of seeing his talent on the field, the pleasure of watching his broadcasts, or the honor of knowing him,” Mr. Iger said.

Nearly 400 professionals have been inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame to date. The 2015 Hall of Fame class includes:

• Ed Carroll—COO, AMC Networks, Inc.

• Lou LaTorre—president, advertising sales, Fox Cable Networks (Retired)

• Alfred C. Liggins III—chairman and CEO, TV One

• Philip J. Lombardo—CEO, Citadel Communications Company, L.P.

• Dave Lougee—president, Tegna Media

• Dr. Phil McGraw—host and executive producer, Dr. Phil

• Donna Speciale—president, Turner Broadcasting Ad Sales

We congratulate Mr. Iger and all of this year’s honorees.

Pay Phones Becoming History at Disneyland:

Photo Credit: Mark Eades, The Orange County Register
Pay Phones are slowly becoming a part of history at Disneyland. Due to the incredible growth of technology in cell phones, pay phones are just not needed as they were in the past. In an article from the OC Register said, "Resort officials said the phones were removed because there was no demand for them. They also said that anyone in the emergency could reach out to employees for help."

The phones have been in the park since the 1960's when AT&T along with Pacific Bell were major sponsors in Disneyland with the Circlevision attraction in Tomorrowland. The attraction showed the "America the Beautiful" film and showed the future of telephone technology. In the exit area, there was even a video phone, banks of pay phones, and large booths that would allow entire families to fit into the booth. Now, that area is all gone and in its place is a shop called Little Green Men Command Store.

Nothing is officially known if the pay phones in Disney California Adventure will be taken out, they still remain as of today. Pay phones still reside in Downtown Disney as well as all Disneyland Resort Hotels.

West Jet Debuts Frozen-Themed Plane:

A new aircraft inspired by Disney's hit movie "Frozen" has joined WestJet's fleet today. The new plane features Anna, Elsa, and Olaf painted on the outside and the inside is even themed to the movie.   "Disney artists, cast members, and WestJetters collaborated to design the Frozen-themed plane. And similar to the earlier Magic Plane, Disney wanted the outside of the aircraft to tell a story," the Disney Parks Blog revealed.

On the tail of the aircraft, Anna and Elsa celebrate sisterhood and the magic of snow and the magic travels to the front of the aircraft where Olaf is show enjoying a warm summer day on the beach. The inside of the plane matches the outside as the back of the plane is the overhead bins and headrests covers are a cold theme and as you head to the front of the plane it transitions to a much warmer theme.

Here are some more facts that the Disney Parks Blog revealed on the plane:

  • The aircraft was painted in Fort Worth, Texas.
  • The paint team included team members from Canada, the United States and Germany. They watched Frozen to get them into the spirit before work began.
  • The job took 21 days of 12-hour rotations involving a constant crew of six painters working 24/7.
  • Sparkles were added to the paint in sections to add shimmer and shine as the aircraft moves.
  • An airbrush artist was brought in to work on details around the sun, water and castle.
  • There are 54 separate overhead bin doors on the aircraft and each has a unique Frozen decal.

The plane although inspired by Disney World will fly not just to Orlando but throughout WestJet's network. What does everyone think of the Frozen-inspired aircraft?
