Walt Disney World Making Changes for Solar Eclipse:

With the Solar Eclipse taking place tomorrow August 21, Walt Disney World is making changes throughout its parks and resorts. There is a projection of 80 to 90% coverage in the area of parks. Total darkness may occur between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Here is a list of what's been announced so far for changes during the day and afternoon:

• Marina at the Grand Floridian Resort will be closed all day on Monday and reopen on Tuesday.
• Tom Sawyer Island at the Magic Kingdom will close at 2 pm and will stay closed for the entire day on Monday.
• Animal Trails at Animal Kingdom will close briefly prior to it getting dark and will reopen once the darkness period is over.
• Blizzard Beach will close as needed at the onset of darkness. Entertainment will be available at the beach area of the park and additional lighting will be added. Also, buses will be running directly to Typhoon Lagoon from 1:30 to 2:45 pm.
• Typhoon Lagoon already has nighttime lighting installed and will be utilizing during the darkness period. There should be no impact to guests of the park.
• Sammy Duvall’s Watersports Centre will be closed from 12 to 5 pm on Monday since Disney is shutting down all lake activities.
• Ferry Transportation sounds like it will be also stopped between 12 and 5 pm per Sammy Duvall’s announcement. No official word on this has been announced by Disney as of now.

Disney will not be providing any eclipse glasses to guests, so if you are visiting Walt Disney World tomorrow plan on bringing your own.

Rivers of Light to be Live Streamed Through #DisneyParksLIVE on August 22:

On Tuesday August 22, #DisneyParksLIVE will live stream Rivers of Light from Disney''s Animal Kingdom. Here are the details from the Disney Parks Blog:

In case you haven’t seen this amazing nighttime show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, “Rivers of Light” celebrates animals and nature by combining floating set pieces, lanterns, a soaring musical score, fountains and more. The show’s storytellers “narrate” this emotionally moving show through a combination of dance, music, song and shadow puppetry. 

Our live stream of “Rivers of Light” will begin Tuesday, August 22 at 8:40 p.m. EDT. A fresh blog post with the live video will appear at the top of the Disney Parks Blog Tuesday night right before the show.

Last night, Grammy-winning artist Josh Groban gave us all a Valentine's gift with a clip from his original song, "Evermore." The song will be included on the soundtrack for the live-action remake of the Disney animated classic "Beauty and the Beast." The film is due out in theaters March 17, 2017. Disney Parks Unboxed: Rivers of Light Merchandise:

We are all anxiously awaiting for the official debut of Rivers of Light at Disney's Animal Kingdom on Friday. The new nighttime spectacular will finally debut after months of delay. Yesterday, Steven Miller, the merchandise guru on the Disney Parks Blog, shared with us some of the merchandise that is now for sale at the park specifically made for Rivers of Light. It's Happening: Rivers of Light to Debut Next Week, Dining Packages Announced

The news we never thought was coming is finally official. Rivers of Light at Disney's Animal Kingdom will debut next Friday, February 17. Shows of the new nighttime spectacular will occur every other day on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday's after the official debut next Friday. 

The shows will occur once a day at 7:15 until April 8th. On April 9, the show will move to daily showings twice a night. This is coming from Disney World's website, an official announcement on the Disney Parks Blog should come later today. 

When the show moves to daily, there will be two showings at 8:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. The only day the show is not available after that is May 24, which is presumed media preview of Pandora: The World of Avatar at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Also, dining packages for Rivers of Light were made available at Tiffins and Tusker House Restaurant. At Tusker House for breakfast it will cost $39 for adults and $23 for children ages 3-9. For lunch and dinner, adults will be $52 and it will be $32 for children ages 3-9. For Tiffins the dining package will be available for lunch and dinner where adults will cost $67 and children ages 3-9 will cost $26. First Video of Rivers of Light Hits the Internet:

Guests of the Disney Social Media Moms last night got a special showing of Rivers of Light at Disney's Animal Kingdom. The long-awaited new nighttime spectacular seems to be complete being drastically cut down from the previews shown late last year to Cast Members. The show is just over 15 minutes.

The video which was posted my one of the guests, in the Jones Family Travels on YouTube. The video is 26 minutes long but the actual show doesn't start until about 7 minutes in the video, the videographer does talk at the beginning and at the end of the video. Check it out below:

Rivers of Light seems to be complete, and should debut either in the next coming days or most likely next week at some point. After watching the video, I did enjoy the show much but did feel that the finale was lacking. The music for the show however is on point and projections were beautiful. I will withhold final judgement however until I see it live.

Doc McStuffins Meet & Greet Coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom:

Later this month, Doc McStuffins will be meeting with guests at Disney's Animal Kingdom in addition to her meet & greet at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Here are the details from the Disney Parks Blog:

The popular toy doctor will make daily visits to Disney’s Animal Kingdom to meet with guests and sign autographs. With her handy stethoscope in hand, she’ll stop by every day just outside the veterinarian clinic at Rafiki’s Planet Watch. While there, wee ones can also learn a little about conservation and how the vets care for the animals that live at the park. And while preschoolers love the train ride to Rafiki’s Planet Watch, it also gives us parents a few minutes to relax before the next adventure.

Rivers of Light Soundtrack to be Released:

Rivers of Light has yet to debut at Disney's Animal Kingdom, but soon you will be able to enjoy the music from the nighttime spectacular at home. Sometime in early 2017, Disney will be releasing a soundtrack for the music of Rivers of Light and the Tree of Life Awakenings show at Walt Disney World. 

It seems though that the soundtrack will be released once Rivers of Light does eventually debut. Several test showings for the long-awaited nighttime spectacular have been shown but no official debut of the show has been announced. Disney has said that it will debut sometime in 2017, we are holding our breath as we await the debut of Rivers of Light.

News Release Reveals What's Coming to Walt Disney World in 2017:

In a press release today, Walt Disney World revealed what is coming to its parks in 2017. This includes the surprise that Rivers of Light will be delayed until sometime in 2017, no definitive date was given. Here is the press release:

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The unveiling of a magical, mythical world of floating mountains, bioluminescent rainforests and soaring Banshees anchors an exciting 2017 at Walt Disney World Resort – a year filled with new water park fun, a new festival for Epcot, more openings at Disney Springs, an awe-inspiring nighttime experience at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and much more.

Here’s a roundup at what the new year has in store:

Pandora – The World of Avatar – A transformational experience unlike any other, Pandora – The World of Avatar, opens in summer 2017. In collaboration with filmmaker James Cameron and LightstormEntertainment, Disney is bringing to life the fantasy world of Pandora, inspired by Cameron’s epic film AVATAR, in a breathtaking new land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Avatar Flight of Passage will send guests flying above the jungles of Pandora on a Mountain Banshee. Bioluminescent rainforests dramatically wrap around Na’vi River Journey, a family-friendly boat ride.

More Additions to Disney Springs in 2017 – With the multi-year makeover of this hip, happening district for dining, shopping and entertainment in the homestretch, still more exciting openings are on tap for 2017. Great new food and beverage venues lead the way.

• Paddlefish – Sleek and modern after a bow-to-stern transformation from the former Fulton’s Crab House, Paddlefish will serve fresh seafood, steaks and chops. Unique menu choices for seafood lovers include a build-your-own boil. A new rooftop lounge will serve up a late-night menu and shipshape views of the water and Disney Springs. Open for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch.
• Planet Hollywood Observatory – Longtime Downtown Disney-goers will remember the iconic domed restaurant that drew celebrities and fans of the Hollywood scene. The reborn space will be themed to stars of a different kind: a turn-of-the-20^th-Century observatory serving up amazing burgers and sandwiches created by celebrity chef Guy Fieri, and craft cocktails whose names are inspired by the planets and space travel. • The Polite Pig – A sister restaurant to the Ravenous Pig, a favorite with Orlando locals, The Polite Pig will bring the same focus on genuine Florida cuisine to a broader global audience at Disney Springs. Lunch and dinner menus will feature a variety of wood-fired smoked and grilled items as well as an innovative beverage program that serves all drinks on tap, including beer, wine and cocktails.
• Wine Bar George – Orlando master sommelier George Miliotes uncorks his first Disney wine bar in a space reminiscent of a winemaker’s estate warmed by oak wood and cozy lighting. Small plates dominate the food menu but it will be the wines with a starring role: more than 100 selections both by the bottle and the glass in a range of varietals and vintages.

Home to four distinct neighborhoods, Disney Springs treats guests to a world of beautiful open-air promenades, flowing springs, arcing foot bridges and waterfront charm. Venues have doubled – to approximately 150.

New Family Raft Ride at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park – Aboard this family-style raft adventure, guests will be immersed in the story of Captain Mary Oceaneer. With innovative and never-before-seen technology, Rivers of Light will be unlike any other production ever staged at Walt Disney World Resort.

Epcot International Festival of the Arts – Epcot welcomes an all-new festival playing winter weekends and treating guests to a triple scoop of artful fun. For six colorful weekends (Fridays through Mondays) Jan. 13-Feb. 20, visual, culinary and performing arts will take center stage. Each weekend will feature taste bud-tempting and eye-dazzling creations from the Disney culinary team. Meantime, exciting new art from various media will tempt art lovers. Because the artwork will change out, it’s a new art festival every weekend. In addition, the lagoon-side stage at American Gardens Theatre will pulse with favorite showtunes performed by Broadway talent. In a collaboration with Disney Theatrical, songs from some of Disney on Broadway’s award-winning shows including The Lion King, Newsies and Aladdin will be performed.

Unique All-New Experiences for Dining, Star Wars Fans – A new adventure in Disney dining and the ultimate Star Wars tour are being offered to guests in 2017.

• Disney’s famed monorail is your connection in a movable feast called Highway in the Sky Dine-Around. The new experience gives guests priority boarding on the monorail for a distinctly Disney dining experience with stops for cocktails, appetizers, dinner and dessert. From a welcome cocktail at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, guests call at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort (apps), Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa (entree) and back to the Contemporary for dessert, cordials and coffee. Offered Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

• For the ultimate Star Wars fan comes the ultimate tour. An all-new Star Wars Guided Tour is a seven-hour immersion in all current Star Wars experiences at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Character greetings, themed dining, ride experiences, insider’s tours, dessert party and VIP viewing of Star Wars: a Galactic Spectacular are among highlights. New Cabins and Deluxe Villas coming to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge – In 2017, a proposed new Disney Vacation Club Resort, Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort, is scheduled to open, featuring new Resort accommodations that include plans for Deluxe Villas and unique waterfront cabins. Other enhancements coming to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge include a brand-new bar & grill, in addition to a quick-service restaurant. A sweeping re-imagination of the former Hidden Springs Pool, part of Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, is also scheduled to open in summer 2017. Named Boulder Ridge Cove, this area will feature an expanded sun deck and zero-depth-entry pool.

New Cheerleading, Dance Venue for ESPN Wide World of Sports – A first-of-its-kind venue specifically designed for the high-energy world of cheerleading and dance team competition opens its doors in 2017 at ESPN Wide World of Sports. The complex is collaborating with Varsity Spirit, the nation’s top cheerleading organization, in bringing the new multi-use venue to life. The venue will include a flexible design that allows for as many as four competition areas. With the ability to seat more than 8,000 guests, the sports and entertainment venue also can accommodate six regulation basketball courts, six regulation volleyball courts or be configured for concerts.

Today, we got our first look at Disney Pixar's "Coco" including the plot of the film and just some of the voice cast. The film is being directed by "Toy Story 3" director Lee Unkrich along with co-director Adrian Molina. Darla K. Anderson will produce the film. Here is the plot:

Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel (voice of newcomer Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voice of Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael García Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history. Zootopia, Finding Dory, and More Nominated for Annie Awards:

Today, the 44th Annie Award nominations were announced and Disney Pixar, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Disney Television Animation, and Marvel Studios received a total of 33 nominations combined. "Zootopia" led the group with 11 nominations. Other films to be nominated included "Finding Dory", "The Jungle Book", "Doctor Strange", and the recently released "Moana."

Six different Disney Television Animations shows were nominated 10 times those shows included: Star Wars Rebels, Gravity Falls, Milo Murphy's Law, and Disney Mickey Mouse. Here is a full list of nominations:

Rivers of Light Cast Member Preview:

It actually happened, Rivers of Light actually had a preview to Animal Kingdom Cast Members last night. While I wish I was there to see it, it does appear that Rivers of Light still isn't ready for the public according to reviews of the show. Rivers of Light is a modern technological marvel but there were some technical issues that did occur last night. 

For example, the show had to be stopped 6 minutes into the the show after what was heard that two of the floats collided. The show did restart and had a complete run through. Guests felt that while the show and music were amazing, it did feel like there was no wow moment. 

I will leave out any of my own opinion until I see the show myself. I will end with this request from Disney. I plead with Imagineers and Disney that they do not release the new nighttime spectacular to the public until the show is absolutely perfect. We waited this long, we could wait until you (Disney) can make Rivers of Light absolutely perfect and truly what could be the best nighttime show in the parks. I hope they won't let me down on this one. 

Rivers of Light Cast Member Previews to Begin Soon; New Amenities Coming to Wilderness Lodge

Rivers of Light Cast Member Previews to Begin Soon:

Is there a light at the end of the tunnel? Could Rivers of Light finally be ready to debut at Disney's Animal Kingdom? According to multiple news sources today, Rivers of Light is almost ready for public debut as Cast Members were told previews for them begin soon.

Previews which will only be for Cast Members at Disney's Animal Kingdom will be on the evenings of November 27 and 28. The cast members will not be allowed to take photos or video during the performances. 

I am taking this with a grain of salt as the new nighttime spectacular was set to debut back in April, but was delayed. An update was promised by the end of May but nothing ever was announced. A rumored debut during last week's Destination D: Amazing Adventures proved to be false. Disney has yet to make any confirmations on Rivers of Light debuting. One could only hope with Cast Member previews beginning next week, that Rivers of Light will be debuting very, very soon.

New Amenities Coming to Disney's Wilderness Lodge:

The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge recently changed their name to the Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge as part of the Disney Vacation Club. The name change is to reflect the railroad theming and the storyline of the resort. Soon though even more changes will be coming for guests to enjoy.

The Hidden Springs Pool will be re-imagined as the new Boulder Ridge Cove that is scheduled to open Summer 2017. It will feature an expanded sun deck and a zero-depth entry pool in what appears to have been an abandoned rock quarry.  More from the Disney Parks Blog:

"Such rejuvenating transformations were common in the Pacific Northwest following the mid-20th-century fading of the Transcontinental Railroad, as locals turned rails into trails – repurposing everything from bridges and tunnels to cranes and quarries. A nearby “Boulder Ridge Railway and Mining Co.” water tower will be among the pool area’s landmark reminders of its pioneering past, while a vintage mine cart supports the mining theme with an affectionate nod to Disney history."

Even more changes are coming to the resort besides the pool area. A brand new bar & grill in the Geyser Point Bar & Grill, will be added in addition to the resorts quick service restaurant in Roaring Fork. The new bar & grill will be located in the heart of the new pool area, where members and guests will be able to grab a bite to eat by the resort's main pool area. There will be ample outdoor seating and architecture that looks right at home with Disney's Wilderness Lodge and the new Boulder Ridge Villas.

More Rumors on Rivers of Light Opening Date:

Just last week we discussed how guests attending Destination D: Amazing Adventures could be one of the first to see Rivers of Light at Animal Kingdom. The discussion has been gaining strength on when the show will debut to the public. Today, WDW News Today put more fuel on that fire according their sources at least. 

While the rumor to attendees of Destination D seem to be getting a preview on November 20 at the end of the event, according WDWNT now Disney is eying a Rivers of Light debut on November 18 just two days before the special viewing for Destination D attendees. Of course none of this is set in stone. As we all know it is now almost 6 months as to when this new nighttime spectacular was set to originally debut.

Is the light finally being lit at the end of the tunnel? Could we finally be seeing this new nighttime spectacular that is expected to be one of the best if not the best nighttime show Disney has ever created. If the rumors are true we should be hearing from Disney very, very soon.

Rumors About Rivers of Light Continue to Gain Strength:

Rumors about Animal Kingdom's yet to debut new nighttime spectacular in Rivers of Light are gaining steam. WDW News Today is reporting that Rivers of Light might be seen exclusively first by attendees of Destination D: Amazing Adventures next month. With the schedule being released yesterday it was noticed that towards the end of Destination D, there will be an optional in-park gathering that takes place at 8 p.m. Originally park admission was required, but now the schedule has been updated to show that it won't be required and details on the in-park gathering are forthcoming.

Even more interesting is Animal Kingdom closes at 7:30 p.m. on November 20 where every other night the park closes at 8:30. Rumors have been swirling for months on Rivers of Light since it was delayed last April. No updates have been given although last week Disney did accidentally leak some info on dining packages for the nighttime spectacular. Although it was quickly pointed out the dates which some were thinking were for May 2017 were actually believed for the details for Rivers of Light original debut.

Could we soon be hearing details on the official debut of Rivers of Light finally? Will Destination D attendees next month actually be the first guests to see the new nighttime spectacular? It sure sounds like it, we will just have to wait and see next month. Destination D: Amazing Adventures takes place November 19-20 at Disney's Contemporary Resort.

The new Planet Hollywood Observatory inside Disney Springs will have completely new theming when it opens later this year. It will still feature stars from the big screen but the big focus will be on the stars in the sky, as the restaurant completes its transformation into a turn-of-the-20th-century observatory.

 Food and drink menus for the restaurant will be revealed soon. Guests can expect more famous movie memorabilia, video screens, cutting edge music, and a store that will feature themed merchandise. The restaurant will feature the Stargazer Lounge where guests will find signature craft cocktails with names that reflect the planets and space travel.

The Disney Parks Blog gave us a sneak peak at two of those cocktails in The Observatory and the Sparkling Sputnik. The Observatory is a sweet sip with Stoli vodka, tangy Limoncino Bottega, Monin  Peach Tea,  and an infusion of bubbles from Maschio Prosecco. The Sparkling Sputnik combines prosecco, sparkling water, fresh lime juice, and fragrant mint leaves.

Is Rivers of Light Delayed Until May 2017?:

The Rivers of Light saga continues to be a mystery as today some revelation on the nighttime spectacular may have been leaked today. A discovery by several people on Disney World's website revealed that dining packages for the new show leaked  to show that they would begin May 1, 2017. 

In those details it revealed that three restaurants would be available in Tusker House and Flame Tree Barbecue, but the third option remained unnamed. One would think that option is Tiffins as that is Animal Kingdom's newest signature restaurant. However, the dining package page on the website was removed by late morning. 

Rumors have been swirling for weeks that Rivers of Light was just about ready to debut. Many were saying that it would be ready in the coming weeks if not by late Fall. Could Disney really be delaying the show for more than a year after it was originally slated to debut. Disney has yet to confirm any kind of official debut of Rivers of Light to this moment. In fact we are still waiting on an update about the nighttime show since it was delayed in April. 

If the May 1, 2017 date is really the official debut for Rivers of Light, it is kind of disappointing. The preview that Disney showed to the media looked really amazing. The anticipation for this nighttime spectacular is overwhelming and as always stay tuned for when we get official word on the debut of Rivers of Light at Animal Kingdom.

DINOSAUR Refurbishment Extended a Month Longer:

DINOSAUR at Disney's Animal Kingdom was supposed to reopen next week on October 17. However, several guests have reported of receiving emails that their FastPass+ reservations for the attraction have been cancelled for the next 30 days. The new re-opening date for the attraction is now extended to November 20, 2016.

Animal Kingdom & Rivers of Light Update Sort Of; Kenny Baker, Actor Who Brought R2-D2 to Life, Passes Away

Animal Kingdom & Rivers of Light Update Sort Of:

Last week, I wrote how there has been no update given on Rivers of Light since it was scratched from its Spring debut due to its unreadiness. So instead Disney came up with Jungle Book: Alive with Magic while they continued work on Rivers of Light. It has been known for awhile now that Jungle Book: Alive with Magic would end on September 5th, which brought on an earlier closing of Animal Kingdom. 

Well, the update is that beginning September 6 and for the rest of September Animal Kingdom will close at 9 p.m. with no nighttime show to offer at least for now. No there really is no update on Rivers of Light as there hasn't been for the last 4 months. Again we were supposed to receive an update on the new nighttime spectacular in late-May but it never came to be. None of the other nighttime activities seem to affected by the ending of Jungle Book: Alive with Magic and will continue throughout the month of September. 

So the question still remains: What's going on with Rivers of Light? Stay tuned as always.

Kenny Baker, Actor Who Brought R2-D2 to Life, Passes Away:

Yesterday, we learned the sad news of the passing of Kenny Baker, the beloved actor who brought our favorite droid R2-D2 to life, Baker was 81. The actor who brought one of the most iconic characters into our lives starred in the first six Star Wars films. He was a legend to Star Wars fans everywhere. 

Baker was born in Birmingham, England and began acting at the age of 16. Baker, besides the Star Wars films, had performances in The Elephant Man (1980), Time Bandits (1981), Lucasfilm's The Willow (1988), and so many more. In 1978 he immortalized R2-D2, by cementing footprints of the droid, in front of the Grauman's Chinese Theater. They still remain outside the famed theater to this day.

George Lucas had to say on Baker, "Kenny Baker was a real gentleman as well as an incredible trooper who always worked hard under difficult circumstances. A talented vaudevillian who could always make everybody laugh, Kenny was truly the heart and soul of R2-D2 and will be missed by all his fans and everyone who knew him."

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy added, "We're all saddened to learn of Kenny's passing. There is no Star Wars without R2-D2, and Kenny defined who R2-D2 was and is. He will be greatly missed."

Kenny Baker will definitely be missed by everyone may he rest in peace.

Disney Highlights Reasons to Visit Disney World this Fall, Where's Rivers of Light?

Fall is a wonderful time to visit Walt Disney World, my visit to the World is in just 40 days. Today, the Disney Parks Blog highlighted its 12 Reasons to Visit Disney World This Fall, but one of its parks is missing. Animal Kingdom and its nighttime events are not even mentioned in the article. 

If you look at the hours for the park after September 5, the park goes back to closing at 7:30/8:00 sometimes even earlier than that. Not to mention we haven't heard any updated on Rivers of Light for months. The last update was in April when we heard that it was being delayed and that we were going to be getting the Jungle Book: Alive wit Magic nighttime show for the summer. Disney had said we would hear an update on Rivers of Light by the end of May. It is now August 9 and yet still no update. 

Now in recent weeks, the barges and the four main animal floats of Rivers of Light have been seen being tested on the Discovery River. There is some hope though as Touring Plans has heard an opening date of September 15, 2016 for Rivers of Light. 

The question remains though if that is the date why wouldn't they at least give us an update or mention Animal Kingdom in today's article. You have to imagine we will be hearing something on Rivers of Light with this proposed debut in just over a month. 

People like me are visiting Disney World this Fall and for many of us who haven't gotten to experience Animal Kingdom at night. We just want some information from Disney and the question remains: What's going on with Rivers of Light?

"Jungle Book: Alive with Magic" and More Awaken Animal Kingdom at Night Beginning Memorial Weekend

Tonight, during their Awaken Summer media preview, Disney World announced that "Jungle Book: Alive with Magic" show will open on the Discovery River beginning Memorial Day as the show and other nighttime experiences will begin as they awaken Animal Kingdom at night. "Jungle Book: Alive with Magic" will take place of Rivers of Light until it is ready. The media did get a small preview of Rivers of Light but it wasn't the full show. Here is the announcement from the Disney Parks Blog:

“Jungle Book: Alive with Magic” Show – For the summer, Discovery River will become the stage for a limited-engagement show inspired by Disney’s hit live-action film “The Jungle Book.” “Jungle Book: Alive with Magic” is filled with music and special effects that celebrates the new film and the classic songs, now infused with an Indian influence.

The Tree of Life Awakens – Disney Parks Blog author Thomas Smith previously shared the first look at this amazing sight, in which the park’s iconic Tree of Life undergoes an extraordinary “awakening.” You can expect to see animal spirits come to life throughout the evening by magical fireflies. Each scene appears to emanate from within the tree itself and reveals stories of wonder.

Kilimanjaro Safaris After Dark – Guests can enjoy Kilimanjaro Safaris in the evening hours, thanks to special lighting that will allow guests to explore the savanna – and its inhabitants – well into the night.

Harambe Wildlife Parti – Guests can turn into “party animals” at the Harambe Wildlife Parti and enjoy lively African music, exotic foods and drinks, and explore the local marketplace.

Discovery Island Carnivale – On Discovery Island, guests can join the local community in their celebration of their love for nature in this party that features music, dancers, stilt walkers, food and more.

Tiffins – Guests can enjoy the park’s newest eatery, Tiffins, for both lunch and dinner. Check out this previous post for a peek at what to expect from the menu.

Nighttime Attractions – The park’s attractions, now operating in the nighttime hours, will take on a whole new life. For the first time, guests will be able to experience the thrill of attractions like Expedition Everest and Kali River Rapids – surrounded by darkness. They’ll also be able to enjoy colorful midway games and attractions in DinoLand, U.S.A.

Rivers of Light clearly won't be ready now until the fall at least but what the media saw tonight looks truly amazing and I can't wait to see it once it is completed. In the meantime these other new nighttime experiences at Animal Kingdom will surely keep us occupied while we wait for this amazing new nighttime spectacular. Animal Kingdom will truly be awakened with the new nighttime experiences.

What's Wrong with Rivers of Light?

Two weeks ago, Disney announced that Animal Kingdom's new nighttime spectacular, Rivers of Light, would be delayed until further notice. Now, as Disney begins their annual summer media preview Rivers of Light which was supposed to begin on Friday, isn't even on the press release anymore. 

They did announce however that the other new nighttime experiences that are expected to begin this summer as well. Here is what the press release had to say on the new experiences minus Rivers of Light:

Disney’s Animal KingdomFor the first time in its 18-year history, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will debut new day-into-nighttime experiences that celebrate the magic of nature.

• The park’s iconic Tree of Life will awaken each night amid a lively celebration of Discovery Island music and dance. Through stunning visuals, animal spirits appear and enchanted fireflies reveal stories of wonder as the tree morphs to showcase the magic of nature.

• Kilimanjaro Safaris transitions to a new nighttime adventure in the extended orange glow of a setting sun. For the first time, hyenas and African wild dogs join the safari trail creature feature.

• Hungry adventurers can have lunch or dinner at the new Tiffins signature restaurant on Discovery Island this summer. Guests seated in the restaurant’s travel-themed dining rooms or on the waterfront patio can sip libations and savor dishes featuring African, Asian and South American flavors. 

• Across the park, guests can experience wondrous new nighttime experiences and entertainment celebrating marvels in nature and enjoy long-time favorites such as Expedition Everest, DINOSAUR, Kali River Rapids and more – in a whole new light.

The question is however what is the issue that is keeping Rivers of Light from debuting? Rivers of Light might possibly be the biggest nighttime spectacular ever at a Disney Park. Rumors are arising that the wireless control system for the show's nighttime floats are simply just not working. But that's not all as the biggest issue might be that one of larger flower barges may have sunk into the Discover River as reported by WDW News Today.

Now what was thought to be debuting by the end of this week, now it is unknown when maybe the newest nighttime spectacular will debut by the summer or the fall. I'm sure when it does debut though it will still be amazing so stay tuned.

Big News: Rivers of Light Delayed, New Magic Kingdom Tour, and More

Big News: Rivers of Light Delayed Along with Other Animal Kingdom Nighttime Attractions:

Last week, it was rumored that previews would begin this week for Rivers of Light. Now previews are cancelled and the opening debut of Rivers of Light and other nighttime Animal Kingdom attractions are delayed. Now as announced today on the Disney Parks Blog the new nighttime spectacular will be slated to begin in mid to late May. 

The reason for the delay is Disney is giving the team more time to bring these innovative experiences to life in a way that will exceed guests' expectations. Disney also released a video showing a behind the scenes look at the Tree of Life and how it comes to life at night with animated imagery that will tell enchanted stories from nature. Check out the video below:

New Magic Kingdom Tour to Travel Through Time with Walt Disney:

A Magic Kingdom walking tour was announced today called, Walt Disney: Marceline to Magic Kingdom Tour. It will be a three hour walking tour that will take you on a journey learning of Walt's upbringing. 

You'll learn when Walt discovered his burgeoning talents, how his family influenced him, the huge impact of his work at the 1964 World's Fair, the evolution of attractions, the challenges of designing and implementing these fantastical experiences, and so much more. You'll also get insight on early Imagineers' and other trailblazers' influence and input on beloved attractions. 

Your expert guide will answer questions while imparting info, trivia, behind-the-scenes secrets, and more - sometimes even while experiencing the attraction firsthand. A special surprise also awaits guests on the tour. 

The tour will be offered daily and will begin at 8 a.m. at Town Square Theater in Magic Kingdom. Itineraries and experiences on each tour will vary and although the tour is geared towards adults, guests 12 and younger are welcome. The tour will cost $35/person plus tax, (theme park admission not included). Reservations can be made by calling 407-WDW-TOUR (939-8687). 

The Disney Parks Blog Gives us a Preview of Tiffins Menu:

The Disney Parks Blog today gave us a sneak peek of what Tiffins menu will look like when it opens up this summer in Animal Kingdom. The signature restaurant's chefs have created a menu inspired the world travels of the parks creators. Here is what the Disney Parks Blog released:

"From the familiar to something new, the menu offers something for everyone – from a berbere-spiced lamb chop to a New York strip steak or beef short rib with potatoes. Starters include a Lobster-Popcorn Thai Curry Soup with Basil and Peanuts (Asia/Africa) to marinated grilled octopus (Europe). Sustainable seasonal fish crudo (South America) and a salad of roasted baby beets and goat cheese with walnut granola and a sun-dried cherry vinaigrette Discovery Island (North America) round out international creations.

Entrées include Berber-Spiced Lamb Chop with Mustard Greens, Lentil Stew and Mint Chutney (Africa); Berkshire Pork Tenderloin with Huitlacoche Tamale, Hominy Succotash and Red Mole Sauce (South America); Miso-glazed Black Cod with Forbidden Rice in Steamed Bok Choy with Turmeric Sauce (Asia), and Grilled Head-on Shrimp with Tomatoes, Roasted Fennel, Olives and Sea Urchin Butter Sauce (Europe). For vegetarians, the Roasted Market Vegetable Curry with Quinoa, Zucchini and Lime Chutney brings a taste of Asia.

With 55 seats inside, and 46 seats in a covered outdoor area, Nomad Lounge offers a half- dozen small bites such as a vegetarian summer roll, a seared Wagyu beef skewer, honey-glazed coriander-spiced pork ribs, Indian butter-chicken wings, seasonal fish balls with shishito peppers and house-made head cheese and chicken liver pate with chutney.

Like Tiffins, the lounge offers handcrafted cocktails with African, Asian and South American flavors, imported beers and a South American and South African wine list. Non-alcoholic beverages include exotic-fruit- flavored lemonades, Asian and African premium loose-leaf teas and coffee beans from Columbia, Ethiopia, Indonesia and Tanzania."

Rivers of Light Previews to Begin Next Week Possibly; New Details and Concept Art for Tiffins at Animal Kingdom

Rivers of Light Previews to Begin Next Week Possibly:

The amazing new nighttime spectacular at Animal Kingdom, "Rivers of Light", previews will begin next week according to WDW News Today and an internal document that is being passed around Disney. According to the document it would begin with an Animal Kingdom cast members only preview next week on April 6th. All other cast member previews will follow on April 8, April 9, April 12, and April 13. 

An Annual Passholder and Disney Vacation Club preview will follow the cast member previews with a special preview for up to 4,000 guests on April 15th. Normal AP and DVC member previews will be held on April 16 and 17. 

This will all lead up to the Press event on April 19th and the show opening to all guests on Earth Day, April 22nd. Also according to the document the show will be shown twice nightly at 8:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m.

New Details and Concept Art for Tiffins at Animal Kingdom Released:

Tiffins will be the newest table-service restaurant at Disney World when it opens this summer in Animal Kingdom. The 252-seat restaurant will open in the Discovery Island area of the park. The name Tiffin comes from the Indian word for a lunchbox used by travelers also a mid-day meal. 

The restaurant will open daily for lunch and dinner with a menu inspired by many locations around the world including Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. When guests enter the signature restaurant they will be greeted by a detailed map of the world to help experience world travel. Around the restaurant will be bold artwork derived from sketches, journals, and research from those who created the park. 

The Disney Parks Blog and Emily O'Brien, Walt Disney Imagineering executive show producer of Animal Kingdom shared this on Tiffins and what guests will experience:

“Tiffins is the signature restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, celebrating the culture of design and research that went into creating this unique park,” said Emily O’Brien, Walt Disney Imagineering executive show producer for Disney’s Animal Kingdom.O’Brien describes the interior design as “a gallery you can dine in with artwork that is a direct result of travels to Africa, Asia and South America which influenced the design of the park.” The ideas of the park’s design team, including sketches, photography, architecture and textures, are all presented in a way that is uniquely Disney.“All the senses are explored and turned into amazing works of art,” said O’Brien. “The galleries, or dining rooms, focus on Asia [Trek Gallery with 74 seats] and Africa [Safari Gallery with 64 seats], and the third [Grand Gallery with 114 seats] pays homage to animal species that the Disney Conservation Fund works to protect.”

The travel-inspired artwork includes a static, three-dimensional piece that features prayer flags blowing in the wind. “As our research team traveled up the high mountains of Nepal, the winds were strong,” explained O’Brien. “The prayer flags are rarely seen hanging, they are always blowing.” This portrayal of the motion is realistically captured in the display which will hang above a corner booth in the Trek Gallery.“Tiffins is not about a make-believe place, it’s about real people and places,” said O’Brien.Disney’s Animal Kingdom is about the intrinsic value of nature, transformation through adventure and a personal call to action, and the adjacent Nomad Lounge brings into focus these core values. With beautiful waterfront views, the lounge focuses on storytelling, and also on guests’ travels, with large banners as “artistic representations” of answers to travel questions written on the perimeter wall. For instance, “what do you always do when traveling” or “what was your most adventurous moment?”“We’re trying to tell the story of how guests can make a change,” said O’Brien. While the answers of Disney experts are displayed, guests also have the opportunity to purchase a tag that supports the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund and to write their own answers to the questions to display above the bar– a way to share their own travel stories “so they can be a part of the story,” said O’Brien.

The Disney Parks Blog said they will be sharing the menu for Tiffins very soon as well the partnering lounge right next to the restaurant also opening up called, Nomad Lounge.
