Disney Announces Ways you can Celebrate Disney 100 at Walt Disney World

With Walt Disney World's 50th Anniversary officially over, Disney has officially begun celebrating its 100th anniversary in Orlando. This week they shared just some ways we can celebrate The Walt Disney Company's 100th Anniversary. First off would be meeting Mickey and Minnie in their platinum best.

EPCOT will be the center of Disney's 100th celebration at Walt Disney World later this year. As the parks transformation continues and is expected to be completed later this year. As Mickey and Minnie have been meeting guests in their brand new platinum best on the west coast at Disneyland, they will be dressed in their platinum bests at EPCOT later this year. More details on where guests will be able to meet them will be coming soon.

There's more to celebrate at EPCOT later this year as we know that Journey of Water: Inspired by Water will open later this year as well as a new nighttime spectacular is expected to light the skies. Disney also shared a sneak peak of a new special Spaceship Earth lighting that will debut later this year as well.

“The Show Lighting Team at Walt Disney Imagineering has been amazed at our guests’ reaction to the nightly shows on Spaceship Earth,” said Jason Read, show lighting designer principal for Walt Disney Imagineering. “We’ve helped celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World, EPCOT’s 40th and the park’s signature festivals. Now, we’re excited to have Spaceship Earth ring in the biggest celebration yet, the 100th Anniversary of the Walt Disney Company.”

Appearing over the last few weeks at each of the four parks plus Disney Springs, are the new Disney100 backdrops.

This photo op is perfect for the entire family and is a perfect start to your day at the parks. Guests should also be prepared for special and unique character meet & greets. As the celebration ramps up at Walt Disney World, guests may run into some of their favorite characters dressed in their platinum best as they pop up at various Walt Disney World resorts.

A celebration at Walt Disney World wouldn't be a celebration without new food, drinks, and of course merchandise. Beginning on May 1, at Amorette's Patisserie in Disney Springs, a new limited Disney100 petite cake will be available for a limited time. The dessert will feature layers of vanilla chiffon, berry mousse and berry compote, all topped with a celebratory Disney100 medallion macaron.

Disney100 merchandise has already showed up at the Walt Disney World Resort, soon a new Disney100 Cinderella premium popcorn bucket will be released exclusively at Magic Kingdom.

Stay tuned for when it will make its grand debut. For now guests can enjoy drinks and popcorn in the new Disney100 refillable cups available now at Walt Disney World hotels and popcorn buckets available at all four parks and Disney Springs.

Limited release merchandise is available across Walt Disney World where you can cherish nostalgic memories with the Decades collection, most recently the 40s-themed Disney100 decades collection which features "Fantasia," "The Three Caballeros," "Pinocchio," and "Dumbo."

This is just the beginning as there will be more ways to celebrate Disney100 in the months to come.

Meet the New & Old Faces from "Cars 3"; 2 Stores at Hollywood Studios Closing for Lengthy Refurbishments

Meet the New & Old Faces Coming to "Cars 3":

In an exclusive with Entertainment Weekly, we got our look at the new faces coming to "Cars 3" this summer including a look at the sleek new design of Lightning McQueen. We also got our first look at Jackson Storm (voiced by Armie Hammer) and Cruz Ramirez (voiced by Cristela Alonzo). Let's check them out:

“Jackson was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Everything comes easy to him, and everything about him says he’s faster, so much so that we’ve designed him so that even when he’s standing next to McQueen, McQueen looks old. Technologically, he’s lightyears ahead of Lightning, a legitimate reflection of the actual years that have passed in the real world since our introduction to the first Cars in 2006. After more than a decade, shiny new rival roadster Jackson represents the peak of real-time innovation," said Brian Fee, director of the film.

Now for Cruz Ramirez, "Cruz may be on Jackson’s side of the age gap, but she’s on Lightning’s side of the conflict. As a lifelong fan of McQueen, she’s optimistic, sunny, fierce, and friendly — and now, she’s his new, younger coach, coming to Lightning’s aid with stars in her eyes when he shows up at the Rust-eze Racing Center. “Whereas others like Jackson would look at McQueen and dump him, Cruz isn’t like that at all. She’s the most optimistic person in the world and wants to do anything to help,” says Fee, who was sold on Alonzo’s voice partly from her short-lived ABC series but primarily from her stand-up comedy specials.

Finally Lightning McQueen will get a new sleek design. Fee added, "McQueen is not the young hotshot anymore, the kid he was back then in Cars 1. He’s in the middle of his life, and as an athlete, that’s getting up there. You have your whole life ahead of you, yet your career is starting to show its age. He’s looking in the mirror and realizing, ‘I’m 40 years old,’ and dealing with the fact that the thing that you love more than anything else, you might not be able to do forever.”

"Cars 3" races into theaters June 16, 2017.

The Darkroom and Cover Story to Undergo Lengthy Refurbishments at Hollywood Studios:

The Darkroom and Cover Story located, both located as you enter Hollywood Studios on Hollywood Boulevard, will close for lengthy refurbishments. They will both be closed beginning this coming Monday, January 9, and will remain closed until March 23. The are both expected to re-open on March 24, 2017.

Cover Story serves as the location where guests view and purchase their Disney PhotoPass images. While the Darkroom sells MagicBands and camera accessories.

2016 Year-in-Review from It All Started With a Mouse

2016 was certainly an exciting year in the world of Disney and Disney Parks. We saw Disney break records at the box office, Shanghai Disneyland opened, and so much more. Here is our year in review for 2016.

Magic Kingdom Celebrates 45 years, Shanghai Opens, and More From Disney Parks:

2016 was a crazy year in Disney Parks around the world. We saw Hollywood Studios become literally half the park it used to be when ground was officially broken for Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land. The same for Disneyland where we saw the closure of Rivers of America temporarily and many other parts of the park to prepare itself for the massive 14-acre expansion of the park.  We also saw many attractions and shows close in 2016 they included:
  • Phineas & Ferb Meet & Greet (Hollywood Studios)
  • Lightning McQueen & Mater Meet & Greet (Hollywood Studios)
  • Habit Heroes and Innoventions West (Epcot)
  • Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show (Hollywood Studios)
  • Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure Play Area (Hollywood Studios)
  • Mike & Sulley Meet & Greet (Hollywood Studios)
  • Studio Catering Co. (Hollywood Studios)
  • Dream Along with Mickey (Magic Kingdom)
  • Shark Reef (Typhoon Lagoon)
  • Main Street Electrical Parade (Magic Kingdom)
With those closures though we saw so many new shows and openings. We saw Soarin' 2.0 open as Soarin' Around the World, Frozen Ever After opened, Mickey's Royal Friendship Faire debuted, and we saw Animal Kingdom light the night with new nighttime experiences.

In June, we saw Bob Iger's pride and joy finally open in the Shanghai Disney Resort. Inside Shanghai Disneyland lie six themed lands, each one a unique experience, imagined and created especially for China: Adventure Isle, Fantasyland, Gardens of Imagination, Mickey Avenue, Tomorrowland and Treasure Cove. At the heart of the park is Enchanted Storybook Castle, the tallest, biggest and most interactive of all Disney castles the world over.

Over in Disneyland, some news broke the hearts of many fans as it was announced in July that the Hollywood Tower of Terror would close at Disney California Adventure. In it's place will be the brand new Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission BREAKOUT! The very first Marvel-themed ride in a Disney Park in the United States. Eventually a more expansive Marvel Land will be built over at Disney California Adventure. Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission BREAKOUT! will open in Summer 2017.

Over in Tokyo Disneyland, an expansion was announced in a new "Finding Dory" attraction will be opening in 2017 along with a new parade during the day and at night. They also are getting a new "Big Hero 6" attraction, a Fantasyland expansion, and Soarin' which was announced back in April.

In October, Magic Kingdom celebrated its 45th Anniversary in which we saw special merchandise and so much more. Just days later Magic Kingdom and Walt Disney World would be closed for the day due to the effects of Hurricane Matthew hitting Florida. Thankfully, there was no lasting effects or damage to the parks.

November was a big month as Destination D was held at Disney's Contemporary Resort. Here it was revealed that Pandora: The World of Avatar would open at Disney's Animal Kingdom would open Summer 2017, MagicBand 2.0 was introduced, and possible the biggest news is that Epcot will be receiving some major updates and expansion over the next few years.

Also in November, Hong Kong Disneyland announced a multi-year expansion. This expansion will include a brand new redesigned castle, a Frozen-themed land with two new attractions, a dedicated Marvel themed area, and Moana's Village Festival over in Adventureland in the park.

Rivers of Light, Where Are You?:

Did you really think I was going leave one of the biggest stories of the year and one of the biggest mysteries? 2016 was supposed to be the year when Rivers of Light, the amazing nighttime spectacular, was set to debut at Disney's Animal Kingdom. It was set to debut back in April alas Disney had other ideas for the nighttime spectacular. Through sources it appears as one of the Lotus flowers had sunk causing the delay.

First, they said it was delayed and would have another update on the show by the end of May. In it's place came Jungle Book: Alive with Magic, which ran through the summer months. The music was amazing but the concept felt rushed considering what Rivers of Light was supposed to be. No update ever came. Many questions and rumors began swirling if Rivers of Light would open by the end of the year.

Disney had another golden opportunity to debut Rivers of Light in November during D23's Destination D: Amazing Adventures. They were having an in-park gathering where guests of event would take part in something inside the parks. Alas, not even a word of Rivers of Light was mentioned at the event. No official debut of Rivers of Light has been announced.

However, Disney has run several Cast Member previews over the last few weeks as well as stating in a "What's Coming in 2017" press release that Rivers of Light will debut sometime in the new year. Disney is even releasing a soundtrack for the music from the nighttime spectacular along with music from the Tree of Life Awakenings when the show debuts. Here's to seeing Rivers of Light sometime in 2017.

Disney Dominates at the Box Office Making History in 2016:

2016 was a record breaking year for Walt Disney Studios at the box office by being the very first studios to cross over the $7 billion threshold in a calendar year. "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" pushed the studio into the history books after its debut in mid-December.

Disney had several films cross over the $1 billion mark at the box office which included Zootopia, Captain America: Civil War, and Finding Dory. The Jungle Book, the live-action remake of the animated classic, came very close to crossing the $1 billion mark at the box office making  $966 million. Other major contributors to Disney's history making year include more recent films like Walt Disney Animation Studios Moana and Marvel's Doctor Strange.

Here's hoping 2017 is another hit at the box office for Disney.

What's Coming to Disney World in 2017; Cast Details and More Released for Pixar's "Coco"

News Release Reveals What's Coming to Walt Disney World in 2017:

In a press release today, Walt Disney World revealed what is coming to its parks in 2017. This includes the surprise that Rivers of Light will be delayed until sometime in 2017, no definitive date was given. Here is the press release:
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The unveiling of a magical, mythical world of floating mountains, bioluminescent rainforests and soaring Banshees anchors an exciting 2017 at Walt Disney World Resort – a year filled with new water park fun, a new festival for Epcot, more openings at Disney Springs, an awe-inspiring nighttime experience at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and much more.
Here’s a roundup at what the new year has in store:
Pandora – The World of Avatar – A transformational experience unlike any other, Pandora – The World of Avatar, opens in summer 2017. In collaboration with filmmaker James Cameron and LightstormEntertainment, Disney is bringing to life the fantasy world of Pandora, inspired by Cameron’s epic film AVATAR, in a breathtaking new land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Avatar Flight of Passage will send guests flying above the jungles of Pandora on a Mountain Banshee. Bioluminescent rainforests dramatically wrap around Na’vi River Journey, a family-friendly boat ride.
Hungry adventurers can recharge at Satu’li Canteen, the main dining location, or Pongu Pongu, a drink kiosk with a design as eclectic as its expat owner. Shoppers can stock up on Na’vi cultural items, toys, science kits and more at Windtraders. “From the place making to the two extraordinary attractions that will be in the land…these promise to set new high-watermarks for the experiential magic we give our guests,” said Bob Chapek, Chairman, Disney Parks and Resorts.
More Additions to Disney Springs in 2017 – With the multi-year makeover of this hip, happening district for dining, shopping and entertainment in the homestretch, still more exciting openings are on tap for 2017. Great new food and beverage venues lead the way.
  • Paddlefish – Sleek and modern after a bow-to-stern transformation from the former Fulton’s Crab House, Paddlefish will serve fresh seafood, steaks and chops. Unique menu choices for seafood lovers include a build-your-own boil. A new rooftop lounge will serve up a late-night menu and shipshape views of the water and Disney Springs. Open for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch.
  • Planet Hollywood Observatory – Longtime Downtown Disney-goers will remember the iconic domed restaurant that drew celebrities and fans of the Hollywood scene. The reborn space will be themed to stars of a different kind: a turn-of-the-20th-Century observatory serving up amazing burgers and sandwiches created by celebrity chef Guy Fieri, and craft cocktails whose names are inspired by the planets and space travel. Movie memorabilia, video screens, contemporary music and themed merchandise complete the scene.
  • The Polite Pig – A sister restaurant to the Ravenous Pig, a favorite with Orlando locals, The Polite Pig will bring the same focus on genuine Florida cuisine to a broader global audience at Disney Springs. Lunch and dinner menus will feature a variety of wood-fired smoked and grilled items as well as an innovative beverage program that serves all drinks on tap, including beer, wine and cocktails.
  • Wine Bar George – Orlando master sommelier George Miliotes uncorks his first Disney wine bar in a space reminiscent of a winemaker’s estate warmed by oak wood and cozy lighting. Small plates dominate the food menu but it will be the wines with a starring role: more than 100 selections both by the bottle and the glass in a range of varietals and vintages.
Home to four distinct neighborhoods, Disney Springs treats guests to a world of beautiful open-air promenades, flowing springs, arcing foot bridges and waterfront charm. Venues have doubled – to approximately 150.
New Family Raft Ride at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park – Aboard this family-style raft adventure, guests will be immersed in the story of Captain Mary Oceaneer. Legend holds that this treasure hunter roamed the seven seas in search of undersea artifacts – until a rogue storm marooned her at Typhoon Lagoon. Guests gently ascend in treasure rafts, only to plunge into a whitewater adventure where they will encounter some of Mary’s deep sea booty. When it opens in spring 2017, it will be one of the longest attractions (2 minutes) at Disney’s Water Parks.
Rivers of Light – Coming in 2017, this powerful theatrical production takes Disney’s Animal Kingdom guests on a magnificent emotional journey – a visual mix of water, fire, nature and light choreographed to an original musical score. Continuing the park’s transformation from a day-into-nighttime experience, the amazing after-dark show on the banks of Discovery River celebrates the majesty of nature and the connection between animals and humans in the world. With innovative and never-before-seen technology, Rivers of Light will be unlike any other production ever staged at Walt Disney World Resort.
Epcot International Festival of the Arts – Epcot welcomes an all-new festival playing winter weekends and treating guests to a triple scoop of artful fun. For six colorful weekends (Fridays through Mondays) Jan. 13-Feb. 20, visual, culinary and performing arts will take center stage. Each weekend will feature taste bud-tempting and eye-dazzling creations from the Disney culinary team. Meantime, exciting new art from various media will tempt art lovers. Because the artwork will change out, it’s a new art festival every weekend. In addition, the lagoon-side stage at American Gardens Theatre will pulse with favorite showtunes performed by Broadway talent. In a collaboration with Disney Theatrical, songs from some of Disney on Broadway’s award-winning shows including The Lion King, Newsies and Aladdin will be performed.
Unique All-New Experiences for Dining, Star Wars Fans – A new adventure in Disney dining and the ultimate Star Wars tour are being offered to guests in 2017.
  • Disney’s famed monorail is your connection in a movable feast called Highway in the Sky Dine-Around. The new experience gives guests priority boarding on the monorail for a distinctly Disney dining experience with stops for cocktails, appetizers, dinner and dessert. From a welcome cocktail at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, guests call at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort (apps), Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa (entree) and back to the Contemporary for dessert, cordials and coffee. Offered Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
  • For the ultimate Star Wars fan comes the ultimate tour. An all-new Star Wars Guided Tour is a seven-hour immersion in all current Star Wars experiences at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Character greetings, themed dining, ride experiences, insider’s tours, dessert party and VIP viewing of Star Wars: a Galactic Spectacular are among highlights. Offered Mondays and Saturdays, it’s part of several new Star Wars additions announced in December 2016 for the park, including a new onstage sequence in the daytime experience “Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away.” Star Wars-themed lands are planned for Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort.
New Cabins and Deluxe Villas coming to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge – In 2017, a proposed new Disney Vacation Club Resort, Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort, is scheduled to open, featuring new Resort accommodations that include plans for Deluxe Villas and unique waterfront cabins. Other enhancements coming to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge include a brand-new bar & grill, in addition to a quick-service restaurant. A sweeping re-imagination of the former Hidden Springs Pool, part of Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, is also scheduled to open in summer 2017. Named Boulder Ridge Cove, this area will feature an expanded sun deck and zero-depth-entry pool.
New Cheerleading, Dance Venue for ESPN Wide World of Sports – A first-of-its-kind venue specifically designed for the high-energy world of cheerleading and dance team competition opens its doors in 2017 at ESPN Wide World of Sports. Major Announcements from First Panel with Bob Chapek at D23 Destination D: Amazing Adventures

We all expected major announcements this weekend and they started off early at D23 Destination D: Amazing Adventures with a panel with Walt Disney Parks & Resorts chairman Bob Chapek. The first announcement was that Pandora - The World of Avatar will open at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Summer 2017. I am sure we will get even more details on the new land tomorrow with James Cameron, Jon Landau, and Joe Rohde.

Chapek revealed that the scaffolding has recently been removed from the bridge that will connect Pandora with the rest of the park (by Tiffins) as seen above in the picture. The bridge will serve as an entrance to the base camp of Alpha Centauri Expeditions, the eco-tour group that is preparing Pandora for future explorers and adventure seekers.

Also shared were three new concept images of inside the land for the Santu'li Canteen (a quick service restaurant inside Pandora), Windtraders (a store), and Pongu Pongu ( a bar with specialty drinks).

Santu'li Canteen will be the main restaurant inside Pandora - The World of Avatar and will feature Na'vi art and cultural items.

Windtraders will be where travelers find Na'vi cultural items, toys, science kits, and so much more.

Finally, Pongu Pongu will be a specialty drink location that will have a design that is as eclectic as its Expat owner.

New Concept Art of Star Wars Land; "Episode 8" Scenes to be added to Star Tours:

While no new details were given on Star Wars Land coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios in the future. We did get our first look at a concept image of Star Wars Land at night. An X-wing soars into Star Wars Land as the new land lights up the night. Check it out below:

Also announced were scenes from "Episode 8" of  Star Wars will be added to Star Tours: The Adventure Continues next year at both Disney's Hollywood Studios and at Disneyland.

Other Hollywood Studios news that isn't Star Wars-related and its a big one is that Hollywood Studios's version of Tower of Terror will not be getting a Guardians of the Galaxy remake.

Big Transformations Coming to Epcot:

Big changes will be coming to Epcot in the future, no details however were announced. Chapek just said that Epcot, "will stay true to the original vision." The future changes will be more Disney, more relevant, timeless, and more family. He challenged the creative team to "dream big" on Epcot.

That's all from this morning opening panel at Destination D: Amazing Adventures. Stay tune throughout the weekend for more breaking news.

Disney Sets Release Dates for Future Films:

Disney has just announced the release dates for several future films including the live-action "Mulan" and just recently announced "A Wrinkle in Time." The live-action "Mulan" which is the remake of Disney's animated classic will be released on November 2, 2018. "A Wrinkle in Time" which just announced that it had begun production will hit theaters April 6, 2018.

The two films already join a jam packed film year for Disney in 2018. These films include Marvel's Black Panther on 2/16, Wreck-It-Ralph 2 on 3/9, Avengers: Infinity War on 5/4, the Untitled Han Solo Standalone film on 5/25, The Incredibles 2 on 6/15, Ant-Man and the Wasp on 7/6, an Untitled Disney Live Action on 8/3, Gigantic on 11/21, and Mary Poppins Returns on 12/25.

I know we are more than a year away on these films, but what film are you most excited about in 2018? I will say I can't wait for all of them.

Walt Disney World today introduced a new limited time 4-day discounted ticket that will cost just $70 per day and will be valid through May 26, 2017. D23 Destination D: Amazing Adventures Speculation?

Next weekend is D23 Destination D: Amazing Adventures at Walt Disney World. I am expecting it to be quite busy with some announcements on the parks. Today, I am going to highlight the event where we can hear some announcements such as the opening of Pandora - The World of Avatar at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

First on Saturday morning right after the welcome we will hear from Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Here is the description of the panel:

Saturday, November 19 at 9:10 a.m. — A Conversation with Bob ChapekBob Chapek, Chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, will sit down with D23’s Jeffrey Epstein to share his insights on the parks.

While this will be very early in the event, Disney could catch us off guard with an announcement early. I would expect this will just be a highlight of what's is new in the parks that has already opened and not anything major for the future of the parks which I expect to come later during another panel. I would still stay tuned for this one as we should always expect the unexpected.

There will be several other panels that day but nothing of potential for announcements of the parks. There will be a special announcement at 2 p.m. from Walt Disney Studios that I expect we will hear some new movie news.

On Sunday, there are three panels that will be potential for some Disney World announcements. First up will be the "New Walt Disney World Adventures" panel in the morning. Here is the description for that panel:

9:20 a.m. — New Walt Disney World Adventures
Get an insider’s glimpse into the latest experiences across Walt Disney World Resort with behind-the-scenes looks at new entertainment—featuring Walt Disney World Resort Ambassadors Caitlin Busscher and Nathaniel Palma, Entertainment Show Director Tom Vazzana, and Imagineer Wyatt Winter!

Here is where I expect to hear some breaking announcements. One, I expect that if they are giving a special preview of Rivers of Light later that night, I expect to hear some kind of announcement when they will debut the new nighttime spectacular to the public.

Also, here is where I expect there to be any Marvel announcements for inside the parks whether Guardians of the Galaxy is coming to Hollywood Studios for the rumored re-theming of Rock N' Roller Coaster or in Epcot at Ellen's Energy Adventure. I am also hoping for some news on Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land in this panel.

The second panel that I expect to definitely here some announcement will be later in the morning where we will be hearing new details on Pandora - The World of Avatar at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Here creators James Cameron and Jon Landau along with Imagineer Joe Rohde will reveal new details.

Concept Art for Na'vi River Journey
11:05 a.m. — Pandora – The World of AVATARAVATAR creators James Cameron (writer, director, producer) and Jon Landau (producer) and Imagineer Joe Rohde unveil new details about the immersive, 12-acre land coming soon to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Here I expect to hear new details on both new attractions in Avatar: Flight of Passage and the Na'vi River Journey. I also am speculating that we will be hearing an opening date for the new 12-acre land that is expected to open in 2017.

Finally, there has been much speculation about the about Rivers of Light forever, Destination D will be holding a in-park gathering at the end of the event. This is where rumors have been swirling that D23 members will get an exclusive first look at the new nighttime spectacular.

What are you hoping is announced during D23 Destination D: Amazing Adventures next weekend?
