2015 Year in Review Of Disney News From It All Started With a Mouse

Well, it's time to say goodbye to 2015 and hello to 2016. It was certainly a great year because this blog was started way back in January. I can't thank you, the readers, enough for such a great year. 2015 brought so much great news all around the Walt Disney Company. From Shanghai Disneyland to Star Wars Land, and from "Inside Out" to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and so much more. Here is the year in review from It All Started With a Mouse.

Top Stories:

Star Wars Land Coming to Both Coasts, Toy Story Land Coming to Hollywood Studios:

We knew it was coming it was just a matter of time oh when it would be announced. At this year's D23 EXPO in August, Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger took the stage to announce that Disneyland and Disney's Hollywood Studios would both be getting a 14-acre Star Wars Land, the largest ever themed land to ever be built in the theme park. The land will include letting guests dive into a whole new planet in the world of Star Wars, including an attraction that will transport guests into a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance. The other attraction will allow guests to fly in the Millennium Falcon into an epic Star Wars adventure on a secret mission. The Mos Eisley Cantina will be built as one of the most popular scenes from the original films will allow guests to enjoy a meal from the world of Star Wars.

Later in the day, the rest of the expansion was announced for Hollywood Studios, as new Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek and lead Disney creator Kathy Mangum took the stage and announced Toy Story Land. Here the 11-acre land will shrink guests into the size of Andy's toys and takes them into Andy's backyard with two new attractions and the expanded third track of Toy Story Midway Mania. Construction on both new lands are expected to begin early in the new year in 2016.

Disneyland Dazzles with 60th Diamond Celebration:

Early this year Disneyland held an event to preview what was coming for its 60th Diamond Celebration in honor of its 60th Birthday that began on May 22. The celebration kicked off with the yearly 24-hour party. Debuting this year in honor of the celebration was the new Paint the Night parade, World of Color - Celebrate! The Wonderful World of Walt Disney, and the Disneyland Forever fireworks show.

The celebration continued on July 17, 2015, which marked the official 60th Birthday and the opening of Disneyland.  The Diamond Celebrations will continue into 2016, so check out Disneyland and celebrate 60 wonderful years.

Details on Shanghai Disneyland Revealed:

In July, Disney Parks Chairman and CEO Bob Iger along with Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek revealed details on Shanghai Disneyland, which will be opening in 2016. It will be the first Disney theme park on the mainland of China and will have six themed lands with innovative attractions and immersive entertainment designed especially for Chinese guests.

The park will feature two new hotels: the Art-Nouveau inspired Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and the Toy Story Hotel. It will feature six themed land including for the first time ever in a Disney theme park no Main Street instead it will be called Mickey Avenue. The other themed lands include Adventure Isle, Gardens of Imagination, Tomorrowland, Treasure Cove, and Fantasyland.

New attractions coming to Shanghai Disneyland include: TRON Lightcycle Power Run, Roaring Rapids, Pirates of the Caribbean - Battle for the Sunken Treasure, Soarin' Over the Horizon, and so much more. For more details on Shanghai Disneyland check out the blog from July here

Changes in Disney Power:

Back in February, Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger made a decision for the future of the company. It was long said that whoever Iger chose to be COO, would be the sure bet to take over the Walt Disney Company when he eventually steps down. Iger chose Tom Staggs, former Parks & Resorts Chairman over CFO Jay Rasulo. Rasulo eventually stepped down in June and was replaced by Christine M. McCarthy. Kevin Mayer was promoted to Chief Strategy Officer. Bob Chapek was named Walt Disney Parks & Resorts chairman.

Goodbye Sorcerer's Hat and So Much More:

2015 was year where we said goodbye to many things at Walt Disney World and in 2016 we will say goodbye to more. It began early with the removal of the Sorcerer's Hat at Hollywood Studios. We said goodbye to the Magic of Disney Animation and saw the final performance from Mulch, Sweat, and Shears.

2015 was also the final year for Star Wars Weekends. As Hollywood Studios goes under its transformation, Disney said Star Wars will be part of the park year round so there would be no need for Star Wars Weekends. Finally, in just a few days we will say our final goodbye's to the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. After 20 years, the lights will be shut off for the final time on January 3, 2016 wrapping up many Disney fans favorite part of the holidays at the parks.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens Lights Up the Box Office in Disney's Most Successful Year Ever:

Finally, what a year it has been for Disney at the box office. It all began with the live-action remake of "Cinderella" in March. Then we had "Tomorrowland" in May, although it wasn't very successful at the box office, it was still a very good movie. In June, Pixar had the hit of the summer with "Inside Out" that film still gets me every time I see it. Pixar wasn't done however because for the first time ever two Pixar films were released in a year. On Thanksgiving, "The Good Dinosaur" was released and it was just as good as "Inside Out" bringing may theater goers to tears of the friendship between Arlo and Spot.

All those films for the blockbuster that just keeps breaking records and is already the 8th most profitable film in history. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has currently made 1.293 Billion at the box office and will still be climbing into the new year. The force has certainly awakened and Star Wars is back. Fans can't be any happier as some have seen the film multiple times already. Will "The Force Awakens" become the top film ever? I guess we will find out in 2016.

Happy New Year and let's make 2016 even better than 2015.

Thank You for Everything, John.

First Look at Two New Characters in "Finding Dory"; What's New in 2016, New Trading Pins Coming to Disney Parks

First Look at Two New Characters in "Finding Dory":

Today, Entertainment Weekly gave us a first look at two new characters set to take the screen in "Finding Dory" voiced by Ty Burrell and Kaitlin Olson. Burrell (Modern Family) will voice Bailey, a snub-nosed beluga whale and Olson (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) will voice Destiny, a sweet whale shark. The film brings back Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) the forgetful blue tang from "Finding Nemo" who is on the search for her parents, on the way she will meet new duo when she visits a rehabilitation center at a marine life facility.

Burrell said in the interview that his character isn't great with his own sonar capability, while Destiny his partner in crime has problem with swimming straight. The offbeat duo play an important role in reuniting Dory with her parents. Olson said in the interview that the two often get on each other's nerves in the film where she is a shark but Bailey calls her a whale while Olson makes fun of Burrell's characters' big head.

The two co-star along with DeGeneres as well as Albert Brooks, Diane Keaton, Dominic West, Ed O'Neill, Eugene Levy, and Idris Elba. "Finding Dory" plays up the storytelling style that has made Pixar films such a hit with kids and adults alike. Burrell said, "There's always a deeper message with Pixar, and so much of it (in Finding Dory) is that these characters are trying to find faith in themselves. "They're trying to overcome their insecurities in order to help somebody in need."

"Finding Dory" hits theaters beginning June 17, 2016.

What's New in 2016? New Trading Pins Coming to Disney Parks:

Today the Disney Parks Blog showed us a sneak peek of what new trading pins are coming to Disney Parks in 2016. Several new collections will be released including the "Disney Love Letters" and "Magical Montage 2016" collections that will release a new pin each month in 2016. Here is the full blog:

NDP16801
New pins to collect or trade are on their way to Disney Parks in 2016. I recently stopped by the Disney pin development office at Disney Theme Park Merchandise to get a first look at several new open edition and limited edition pins. Here are a handful of my favorites coming soon to Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts.
NDP16802
One of my favorite new pin-of-the-month collections is called “Disney Love Letters.” Each limited edition pin features characters expressing warm sentiments of love. You might recall seeing two of these pins in a recent Disney Parks Blog Unboxed video. The collection will be shared between Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts, and each pin will have an edition size of 3,000.
The “Magical Montage 2016” collection will be released at Walt Disney World Resort. Each limited edition pin will have characters next to an icon that opens to reveal another character. A new pin will be released each month, and each pin will have an edition size of 3,000.
NDP16803
We’ll continue saluting the Disneyland Diamond Celebration with more Disneyland “D” character pins. Each pin will have an edition size of 3,000 and will be released at Disneyland Resort.
I love the “Disney Duets” pin-of-the-month collection as each pin is like a work of art. The monthly series will be released in a metal box with lid.
The popular Piece of Disney History will return to both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts in 2016. Each pin in this collection contains a piece of a Disney Park attraction, show or icon.
NDP16804
There will also be two mystery pin sets inspired by artwork from March Magic 2015. You may recall we offered t-shirts online with these designs last spring. Now, guests will be able to trade for their favorite teams with these mystery sets containing 16-pins each. Pictured above are some of the teams from the Disneyland Resort collection.
NDP16805
Finally, we’ll have several new open edition pins released throughout the year. I was delighted to see Humphrey the Bear and a pin inspired by Walt Disney’s “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.” These pins and others make great gifts which can be presented in two unique pin gift boxes currently available at Disney Parks.
Happy Trading in 2016.

D23 Reveals Member Gift for 2016 Highlighting Disney's Rich History, Pizza Planet to Close for Lengthy Refurbishment, and More

D23 Reveals Member Gift for 2016 Highlighting Disney's Rich History:

The 2016 member gift for D23 Gold members will honor the restoration of Walt's office suite on the Burbank Studios lot. The gift highlights Disney's rich history with D23 working with the Walt Disney Archives to reproduce 23 items from Walt's career that trace back his path from America's heartland to the world stage.

The gift comes in a 'book' designed to hold all 23 items and will be sent to all D23 Gold and Gold Family members who join or renew from January 1 through December 31, 2016. Some of the items included are items from Walt’s early years in business such as his 1923 Laugh-O-gram Films Inc. business card and the famous 1928 “Everything OK” telegram, which Walt cryptically wired his brother Roy when he lost the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Also in the collection are the 1955 Disneyland invitational press preview pass and Walt’s notes on pages from the “EPCOT Film” script from 1966. Pieces representing animation, live action, television, and theme parks—as well as Walt’s own personal life—make up this one-of-a-kind set. Here is the complete list of items you will receive in this year's gift:

1 – “Walt Disney, Cartoonist” Envelope (ca. 1921) - In the early 1920s, aspiring newspaper cartoonist Walt Disney discovers the art of animation. Experiments in his parents’ backyard garage lead to his first, though short-lived, business venture in Kansas City.
2 – Laugh-O-gram Films Inc. Business Card (1923) - Madcap takes on classic tales give Walt his first screen success. Pen-and-ink Goldie Locks, Red Riding Hood, and Cinderella pave the way for a live-action Alice, whose comedic adventures in a cartoon wonderland click with audiences and spawn a series.
3 – The Ocean Hop Poster Art (1927) - Walt’s second successful series starred Oswald, a rabbit whose ”luck” held through a series of 26 silent shorts. In this poster design, Oswald salutes American air ace Charles Lindbergh, whose transoceanic flight captivated Walt—and the world.
4 – “Everything OK” Telegram (1928) - Following the devastating loss of Oswald to his New York distributor, Walt cryptically wires his brother that all is well. Ever the optimist, as his train speeds west, Walt plans his next act… and the mouse who will be its headliner.
5 – Disney Hyperion Studio Letterhead (ca. 1930) - Walt Disney’s studio on Hyperion Avenue grows steadily as the triumph ofSteamboat Willieallows Walt and his artists to establish and refine animation with an emphasis on storytelling and personality.
6 – “Minnie’s Yoo Hoo” Sheet Music (1930) - Movie theaters play host to the first Mickey Mouse Clubs, where throngs of “Mickey Mice” convene for Saturday matinees with their favorite star. The official club song, “Minnie’s Yoo Hoo,” is the creation of music director Carl Stalling and Walt Disney himself.
7 – Walt and Lillian Disney Christmas Card (1931) - 3 years after his debut, Mickey Mouse is a global celebrity, and his creator’s name is a household word. Walt and his wife, Lillian, send this elegant holiday greeting to friends and acquaintances, anticipating a decades-long tradition of illustrated Studio cards.
8 – Silly Symphonies Film Industry Trade Ad (1932) - Pushing established boundaries, the Silly Symphonies explore music and color in vibrant and unexpected ways. The series paves the way for an entirely new motion picture genre: feature animation, beginning with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
9 – Radio Broadcast Publicity Photograph (ca. 1938) - Eager radio listeners tune in to The Mickey Mouse Theatre of the Air, a Sunday afternoon treat featuring original stories, music, and character voices from Disney pictures… including Walt as both himself and Mickey.
10 – Staff Handbook Organizational Chart (1943) - At his bustling new studio in Burbank, Walt’s creative team expands. New arrivals learn that the friendly atmosphere originates from their famous boss, who insists on being addressed by his first name.
11 – Memory Book Sketch by Walt Disney (1944) - On December 28, 1944, a testimonial dinner is held at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood for Mr. A.V. Cauger, who had given several future animation luminaries their starts at the Kansas City Film Ad Company—including a grateful Walt Disney.
12 – London Train Shop Receipt (1949) - Miniature railroad enthusiast “W. Disney, Esq.” eyes an engine for his backyard layout, as does designer Harper Goff. Walt gets the train, but Harper gets a job that will make him a Disney Legend.
13 – Walt Disney “Fan Card” (ca. 1954) - The Studio Fan Mail Department receives mail for all Disney personalities, particularly Walt himself. Special fan cards are sent in reply, including this portrait of Walt with a collection of characters drawn by legendary artist Bob Moore.
14 – Walt’s Mickey Mouse Club Notes (ca. 1954) - To fund his theme park plans, Walt agrees to produce both a weekly anthology and a daily children’s TV series for ABC. The groundbreakingMickey Mouse Club features a talent showcase, history, current events, and, naturally, Disneyland fun.
15 – Invitation to 30th Anniversary Party (1955) - Time flies as Walt and Lilly mark 30 years of marriage with a spectacular Disneyland party four days before the park’s dedication. Humorous lovebirds caricature the happy couple on their own copy of the invitation.
16 – Disneyland Press Preview Pass (1955) - While the nation watches on live television, Walt hosts the invitational opening of his original Magic Kingdom on July 17, 1955. Disneyland becomes every child’s vacation goal—and welcomes its one-millionth guest in less than two months.
17 – Inter-Office Memo to Ward Kimball (1955) - Directing animator Ward Kimball, who had helped fan the flames of Walt’s love for trains, receives the title of Honorary Vice President of the new Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad and, most importantly, a pass to enjoy its scenic route around the park.
18 – Walt Disney’s Autograph (1958) - Increasingly, Walt is recognized while roaming Disneyland, and to avoid gathering crowds while still accommodating autograph requests, takes to carrying pre-signed paper in his pockets. He quickly hands a sheet to a requestor then hurries on his way.
19 – It’s a Small World Notecard (1964) - Walt’s salute to children everywhere, It’s a Small World is one of four Disney exhibits showcased at the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. Visitors can aid its sponsor, UNICEF, by purchasing this and other Mary Blair art cards beneath the landmark Tower of the Four Winds.
20 – Mary Poppins Promotional Piece (1964)
Walt seeks the rights to P. L. Travers’ enchanting stories for decades and is rewarded with the biggest hit of his cinematic career. Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke dazzle in this extraordinary musical fantasy, rightfully heralded as “a supreme achievement.”
21 – Postcard of Walt’s Plane (ca. 1964) - Actively enjoying the perk of a company plane, Walt follows two earlier Beechcraft models with this sleek Grumman Gulfstream I, which is used for travel and to scout land parcels in Florida. Delighted passengers receive this postcard as an exclusive in-flight amenity.
22 – Walt Disney Productions Pass (ca. 1966) - Visitors to Walt’s 44-acre lot in Burbank find a charming, campus-like environment, much the same as when it was built in 1940. Stages and backlot streets are later additions to this community of collegial creativity where anything is possible.
23 – Walt’s Notes on EPCOT Film Script (1966) - Walt annotates writer Marty Sklar’s script introducing the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. Executive Card Walker will see both this film and the EPCOT project through to completion.
Pizza Planet to Close for Lengthy Refurbishment:

Well, we may have an idea what or where Pizza Planet will be and look like by next November when it closes for the lengthy refurbishment beginning January 19, 2016. The refurbishment is slated to last until November 7, 2016.

Much speculation has been put out that when Toy Story Land eventually opens in Hollywood Studios that Pizza Planet would re-open in the new land across the park from where it currently is located. As details come out about Toy Story Land, one would assume that when Pizza Planet will open to new theming, even possibly a new name when it re-opens in November.

Stay tuned for details on this refurbishment and news on both Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land as construction is set to begin sometime in early 2016.

Disney Testing Paid Parking at Walt Disney World Resorts:

After an earlier test at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney will resume testing of paid parking at its resorts with a test at Disney's Boardwalk. It will be the latest attempt to control parking at the resorts. If the successful test continue resorts with paid parking will prevent guests from lying to park at resorts saying they are visiting when they are just using the parking to spots to visit the theme parks instead.

With the new policy, guests without reservations and guests who are not resort guests will have to pay a parking fee to park at the resort. Guests with dining reservations, Tables in Wonderland members (who get free valet when dining at resort restaurant only, and of course resort guests would not have to pay the parking fee.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Crosses $1 Billion Globally Easily:

It was never a question of if "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" would pass $1billion globally, it was just the question when would it. That answer is 12 days, and it is now the quickest film to pass $1 billion globally ever. 'The Force Awakens' has grossed $544.6 million domestically after racking in $153.5 million in its second weekend.

Overseas, the film raked in $133 million in its second weekend for a foreign total of $546 million. Worldwide, 'The Force Awakens' has grossed a total of $1.09 Billion. Overseas the U.K. leads with massive $97.2 million, Germany has raked in $54.3 million, France at $47.8 million, Australia at $35.7 million, and finally Japan at $31.3 million.

These numbers haven't even reached their highest potential as "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has yet to premiere in China, it will do so on January 9. The question is now will it top "Avatar" which holds the highest gross total ever with $2.8 billion worldwide or "Titanic" which made $2.2 billion. Right now, it seems nothing is stopping 'The Force Awakens'. The question will be answered in just a few weeks as some big movies of 2016 are set to be released.

Disney Legend Carson Van Osten Passes Away, Expanded Cove Bar Now Open at California Adventure, and More

Disney Legend Carson Van Osten Passes Away at 69:

It with great sadness to report on the passing of Disney legend Carson Van Osten, he was 69. Van Osten recently became a Disney Legend at August's D23 EXPO for his exemplary work as an artist, design, and Disney Animation. He worked for 45 years with the Walt Disney Company. Here is his official Disney Legend biography:

“I think I always knew that I’d be an artist,” Carson Van Osten says, “and although I was too young to remember it, my parents told me that I said I wanted to draw cartoons for Walt Disney when I grew up.” And since 1970, Carson Van Osten has done just that. He’s helped bring Disney characters to life, in a wide breadth of media all around the world.

After attending the Philadelphia College of Art, Carson instead became a professional musician and recording artist, founding the rock group Nazz along with Todd Rundgren. Moving to Hollywood, he applied his artistic skills as an assistant animator, layout man, and background artist at Fine Art Films, creating animated titles and interstitial segments for The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, The Ken Berry ‘Wow’ Show, Jonathan Winters’ Hot Dog, and The Dean Martin Show. He also worked on the animated feature Shinbone Alley, based on the “Archy and Mehitabel” stories by Don Marquis.

He arrived at Walt Disney Productions in 1970, beginning as an illustrator of Mickey Mouse comic books.

“I did like to draw Mickey and Goofystories from the start,” Carson says. “And the Studio needed them more—Tony Strobl and Al Hubbard drew the ducks.”

Carson became a staff comic strip artist and story man in 1974, working alongside legendary Disney comic artists Floyd Gottfredson and Manuel “Gonzy” Gonzales. “We all worked in the same big room and got to be great friends,” Carson says. “They loved to talk about the early days at Disney.” Carson was an interested and attentive listener. “I still think about Floyd often, especially when I draw Mickey in the 1930s style.”

One of his best-known works is the Disney Comic Strip Artist’s Kit, a seven-page primer on staging, perspective, and other design fundamentals inherent in comic panel art. It is still in use today, all around the world. “I wrote and drew those sketches around 1975, and I’m so tickled to know that people still find them helpful today. Frank Thomas saw it and used it for an animation class he was teaching at the Screen Cartoonists Guild. That’s how some sketches wound up in the book that he and Ollie wrote,Disney Animation: The Illusion of Life.”

In 1980, Carson became a manager in Creative Services for Disney Consumer Products, providing art supervision and concepts for Disney West Coast Licensing. He also oversaw motion picture tie-in advertising, Disney publications, and the Disney Music Company.

“I really liked the variety of work for 2D and 3D products, book or magazine art, record cover ideas, and more. It was changing and challenging every day.”

In 1988 Carson took on the role of vice president in Creative Resources for Disney Consumer Products, providing art supervision and guidelines for art production, as well as helping to establish some of the first licensing style guides for the group. In 1994 he became vice president of Creative Services for the European regional office of Disney Consumer Products in Paris, and, starting in 1997, he was vice president of International Creative Development for the Disney Publishing Group. In that role, he provided art and editorial supervision for key international publishing projects.

Other projects to which Carson has contributed were the logo concepts for Mickey Mouse’s 50th and 60th birthdays, The Walt Disney Studios, and the Disneyland Hotel clock tower “Mickey” at Disneyland Paris. More recently, he has served as a consultant for the Disney Epic Mickey and Where’s MyMickey? games.

“I retired from Disney in 2000,” Carson says, “but I have continued to do projects for my friends there as an outside consultant and illustrator. Most of my work is for books, but I’ve also done concepts for licensing, interactive games, and other areas, too; including seminars about the history of Disney Consumer Products.

Altogether, I’ve been doing some kind of work for Disney regularly for the past 45 years.”

Much condolences to the Van Osten family at this difficult time, we will all truly miss Carson and all the wonderful things he did with the Walt Disney Company. May he rest in peace.

Expanded Cove Bar Now Open at California Adventure:

More seating has been added to the Cove Bar at Paradise Pier in Disney California Adventure Park. The Disney Parks Blog announced today that the expanded seating area is now open.

"From this expanded alfresco patio, you can sit back and enjoy those famous Lobster Nachos while you watch guests take off from the launch zone on nearby California Screamin’. The Cove Bar will continue to serve the delicious bites and cocktails you love, so stop by on your next visit to Disney California Adventure park!"

Will you be visiting the new expanded Cove Bar when you visit Disney California Adventure?

Star Wars Added to Critics' Choice Awards as 11th Best Picture Nominee:

After the nominees had previously announced, yesterday "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was added as the 11th nominee for Best Picture by the Broadcast Film Critics Association. With such secrecy to the film, critics weren't able to see the film before the association had made their nominations. The group took a vote among its membership to add "The Force Awakens" to the nominees. The group released this statement:

"While making an amendment to the Critics' Choice Awards nominations is highly unusual, having an 11th Best Picture nominee is not unprecedented. In 2000 "Cast Away" was similarly screened to late for normal consideration and the BFCA included it among 11 Best Picture nominees."

The Critics' Choice Awards will air January 17 at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST on A&E and LMN. The awards show will be hosted by "Big Hero 6's" T.J. Miller.

Spoiler Free Review of Star Wars: The Force Awakens

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, that's how Star Wars began in 1977 and once again last night when "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opened in theaters breaking Thursday night release records by making $57 million on the first night alone. My showing at 10:10 last night was sold out like thousands of others last night. Let's get on to the film itself though, as 'The Force Awakens' has caused an awakening that fans have been longing for since 'Return of the Jedi'.

Fans for years have been waiting to see if J.J. Abrams and Disney would ruin the films as we know it after the let down of Episodes 1-3. I know I wasn't disappointed as J.J. took the helm of "The Force Awakens" and brought the greatness of Star Wars back. The story line was perfect and the new characters in Rey, Finn, Poe, Kylo Ren, and BB-8.

Rey's story is the focus and she blossoms throughout the movie into a strong female character that leads us into waiting for Episode VIII. Yes, the way the film ends Episode VIII will be just as anticipated as "The Force Awakens." Daisy Ridley played Rey like she was in the films before.  Kylo Ren is one dark character who's story is just beginning. It seems like his story is a lot like Darth Vader's. Finn's story is just beginning as well, John Boyega played the role perfectly.

Harrison Ford does an amazing job as an older and wiser Han Solo. Han is seen as just as he was found in "A New Hope" but more wiser as he even still brings the comedic input of the film as he mentors both Finn and Rey. Then Leia who has aged but is also wiser and shows how strong she can be throughout the film. The questions of where is Luke are answered but you'll have to see the film to find out. There are even more questions to be answered that will hopefully answered in the coming films in the future.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was perfect and I literally felt like I was watching the original films.   The film brought cheers throughout the whole film because it was just that great. Star Wars is back and in the words of Han as he tells Chewbacca as they enter into the Millennium Falcon once again, "Chewie, We're Home." Star Wars fans are right at home again and all is right in the world. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" gets 5 out of 5 Lightsabers and if I could give it a higher rating I would because the film was amazing. Episode VIII can't get here fast enough.

"Chewie, We're Home."

New Security Measures Enforced Today at Disney Parks; Entertainment Schedule for 'Force Awakens' Event at Hollywood Studios

New Security Measures Enforced Today at Disney Parks:

Here is the updated park rules that began today at all Disney Parks. This includes the installation of metal detectors at all parks. Although it appears, guests will be randomly put through scanners and it won't be everyone. Here is a general list of new rules at the parks:

  • Costumes and masks are now prohibited by guests ages 14 and older
  • Disney is now pulling all toy guns from store shelves including Buzz Lightyear Laser Guns, Star Wars Blasters, and bubble guns. The ban however doesn't include toy swords or lightsabers.
  • Heavier presence of uniformed and armed police, Disney will also be adding more K-9 units.
  • Guests visiting Disney Springs AMC 24 Theaters will now be subject to bag checks and random wand scanners, although that may be temporary due to the opening of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" this weekend.

A Disney spokesperson released this statement in conjunction with the new security measures, "We continually review our comprehensive approach to security and are implementing additional security measures, as appropriate." These new security measures after recent terrorist attacks in San Bernardino, CA and in Paris. Also recently an incident at Magic Kingdom where a man attempted to get in the park with a gun. The man never got in and was apprehended by security and police.

I definitely agree with the new security measures if it helps the park become even safer than it already is. My only question is for people like my father who is in a wheel chair, will it be harder for him getting into the parks. Today, it has been reported that the security measures have run smoothly through out the parks. Disney is asking guests to expect some wait times and to remain patient with the new security measures.
