New Security Measures Enforced Today at Disney Parks; Entertainment Schedule for 'Force Awakens' Event at Hollywood Studios

New Security Measures Enforced Today at Disney Parks:

Here is the updated park rules that began today at all Disney Parks. This includes the installation of metal detectors at all parks. Although it appears, guests will be randomly put through scanners and it won't be everyone. Here is a general list of new rules at the parks:

  • Costumes and masks are now prohibited by guests ages 14 and older
  • Disney is now pulling all toy guns from store shelves including Buzz Lightyear Laser Guns, Star Wars Blasters, and bubble guns. The ban however doesn't include toy swords or lightsabers.
  • Heavier presence of uniformed and armed police, Disney will also be adding more K-9 units.
  • Guests visiting Disney Springs AMC 24 Theaters will now be subject to bag checks and random wand scanners, although that may be temporary due to the opening of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" this weekend.

A Disney spokesperson released this statement in conjunction with the new security measures, "We continually review our comprehensive approach to security and are implementing additional security measures, as appropriate." These new security measures after recent terrorist attacks in San Bernardino, CA and in Paris. Also recently an incident at Magic Kingdom where a man attempted to get in the park with a gun. The man never got in and was apprehended by security and police.

I definitely agree with the new security measures if it helps the park become even safer than it already is. My only question is for people like my father who is in a wheel chair, will it be harder for him getting into the parks. Today, it has been reported that the security measures have run smoothly through out the parks. Disney is asking guests to expect some wait times and to remain patient with the new security measures.
