Disneyland's New Enchanted Windows for 60th, Walt Disney Co. Releases Second Quarter Earnings, and More

Disneyland to Unveil New Enchanted Windows on Main Street for Diamond Celebration:

New windows are coming to Main Street, USA in Disneyland in celebration of its 60th Diamond Celebration. Since the park opened the windows at Disneyland's Emporium have always told a story and have brought guests into those stories. Now that extra Disney magic is being added with six new dioramas for the windows.


The six new dioramas will be unveiled sporadically throughout the celebration. The animated dioramas of "Peter Pan" and "Cinderella" will be unveiled in May. "Frozen" and "Princess and the Frog" will be unveiled in July. Finally, "Toy Story" and "Aladdin" will be unveiled in August. Disney released a behind the scenes video of the new enchanted dioramas with John Gritz, Creative Designer at Disney Imagineering.


The Walt Disney Co. Releases Second Quarter Earnings:

Today, the Walt Disney Co. released their second quarter earnings with another increase of 10 percent in their profits. Shares of the company are up $1.23 from its first quarter earnings report, an increase of 14 percent. While the net income of the company was $2.1 billion on revenues of $12.5 billion. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts saw a 6 percent increase in revenue. The operating income has gone up to $566 million which has been driven by increased spending and attendance and Walt Disney World. Disneyland has seen a slight decrease in attendance numbers from last year. Occupancy at hotels stateside is at 89 percent. 

COO Tom Staggs said on the earnings, "MyMagic+ as a driver going forward, I think it will still be a factor, but perhaps not with great as an impact as we have seen in this quarter. Looking forward, I think we're most excited about what we see in terms of the prospects outside the United States, with the opening of Shanghai Disney Resort next year."

Frozen merchandise continues to be the winner for Disney as it continues to fly off shelves in retail stores. Retail sales of the brand are 10 times of what they were at this time last year.
